Why I want to give away my artwork

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

This may sound crazy considering that most artists are looking for ways to sell their art, and some will probably be very upset with me when they find out that I want to give away my art.

However, art for me is the creation!

Here’s a few other reasons:

  • I don’t want to try to sell it
  • I can only hang so many pieces in my home
  • I don’t want to store tons of art that will never be seen
  • I feel the need to create something
  • My high school art teacher asked me “Why can’t you just draw like your older brother?”
  • My brother has most of the talent, but I like the process
  • It’s something to blog about (and I hope you’ll blog about it too)
  • I can do this with my children
  • My college professor tried to explain (for an hour after my first class) how art is not subjective and this pissed me off
  • It’s for fun

There are no hidden agendas, no selling of your information, and no mass emails that will annoy you (I don’t even like email anymore).

However, I’m hoping to fulfill my need to create, show off other amateur artists, give away my work so that someone can enjoy it (or sell it — I don’t care), and prove to myself that I can do it.

Remember: if you have any left over art supplies, I would love to get my hands on them.

How to Win My Art

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

I’ve got a new project I’m working on for one of my hobbies: art.

Here at WinMyArt.com you can follow along as I create new pieces and you can enter for a chance to win my art. This is not a joke. Tell everyone you know. This is a chance to win completely free*, no questions asked artwork that you can hang up, give away to someone you care about, or sell it on Ebay. I don’t care. I just want you to blog about your experience (and if you have extra art supplies, please send them to me).

I’m not exactly sure how this is going to work yet, but I got this idea yesterday and wanted to jump on it. However, since I’m not planning to sell my art, I’m looking to get my hands on free art supplies to minimize my costs. I’m an amateur artist, but I’ve felt the need to create for several months now and it’s an itch that just won’t go away. If you have left over art supplies including paint, brushes, canvas, protectant, boards, or any other supplies that are just laying around, please let me know. I’ve posted on Craigslist in the greater Salt Lake City area so I can easily pick up any supplies.

* Because there is no money in all of this and I have to buy any supplies that I can’t get for free, I expect all winners to pay for reasonable shipping costs to be determined at the time of shipping. Depending on the project and the distince being shipped it will vary, but I will give you an exact amount before shipping.

Stay tuned for more information.
